Aaron Helgeson

Aaron Helgeson, né 1982 à Eugene (Etats-Unis), a travaillé à l'American Music Institute, à l'Interlochen Center for the Arts et au Conservatoire Oberlin. Helgeson has written for a number of renowned performers, including the Arditti String Quartet, the contemporary sextet Echoi, trumpet player Peter Evans, and members of the redfishbluefish percussion ensemble led by Steven Schick. In 2005, his opera The crane wife was premiered, with the composer participating as artistic director. Also a composer for theater, Helgeson assisted Gina Leishman in creating the score for the La Jolla Playhouse's 2006 production of Brecht's Mother Courage, winner of the San Diego Critic's Circle Award for best original music. Helgeson's awards include a Robert Erickson Scholarship, the Saul Chaplin Award for Music Theater, the Oberlin Conservatory Composition Prize, and grants from the American Composers Forum. In addition, Helgeson was named a finalist for a 2007 Fulbright Grant. While currently studying with Roger Reynolds, former teachers include Chaya Czernowin and Lewis Nielson, with masterclasses taught by Helmut Lachenmann, and Kaija Saariaho.
